About Kinich Sun Hoods
Named for the Maya sun god, Kinich Ahau, who rose each day to shine light and energy on the world, Kinich Sun Hoods were born out of a deep respect for the sun—and a desire to thrive under it. The idea came to life on the banks of the South Fork of the Snake River, where longtime fly fishing guide Dallin Ralls has spent decades on the river, guiding clients through some of the most scenic and mostly sunny waters in the West.
As a guide and renowned fly tier, Dallin’s days start early, end late, and often involve hours under the Idaho sun. While traditional sun hoodies fell short—poor fit, no pockets, too bulky—he loved the protection a hood offered. So, he created a better option: a lightweight, breathable hood that fits with any shirt, so you can keep your favorite fishing shirt and still get serious UV protection.
Dallin’s roots run deep in the fly fishing world. He’s known for his calm, patient approach to guiding, and for the creative spirit that’s been with him since childhood—when he tied flies from carpet fibers, parakeet feathers, and even the elastic from his underpants. His passion for the sport, and for helping anglers feel comfortable and confident on the water, is what drives Kinich Sun Hoods today.
